Can displacement transducers be repaired?
Wiper replacement can be facilitated for certain potentiometers. Kindly contact for further details & request support.
My previous potentiometer had a resistor value of 10k - is it safe to use a displacement transducer with a 5kΩ resistor value?
Yes. A displacement transducer is a voltage divider (not a variable resistor) so resistive value is of little importance
unless the data acquisition system has specific requirements. Be careful however to observe the power supply
capabilities to define maximum absorbed current.
Displacement transducer: The potentiometer is not linear
Linearity is greatly influenced by the input impedance value - so this is vital for considered applications.
For example, whilst it is theoretically possible to connect a potentiometer to a , say 0-10Vdc, input of a PLC, the input impedance value of of the PLC must be considered.
40B indicator displaying 'Hi or Lo, Er' when connected to a 3.33mV/V strain gauge.
This is usually an indication that the input sensor signal is out of range. Note: a 'calibration'/adjustment is always required when new pressure sensors are connected to indicator.
4-wire solution
Can I use a 4/40T indicator to supply a MK4 linear transducer?
No. The MK4 transducer draws 70/90mA, but the maximum current supplied by the 4/40T is 50mA at 24V.
40BX-X-24-X-X-X-X-X may be used.
Gefran indicators: Do you have a display that can indicate more than one zone?
(thermocouple, resistance sensor, voltage and current)
Gefan indicators: How can I simulate a sample weight or pressure?
A sample weight/pressure can be simulated with a mV or analogue signal from a signal generating device.
Gefran indicators: What does resolution mean?
In this case, the resolution is an indication of the smallest quantity that can be measured.
Controller display doesn't switch on after being powered?
There is a possibility that the controller is faulty/blown. Kindly download a customer request form, complete and send to Thermon SA (Pty) Ltd. for a quote on repair.
The display of the temperature controller continuously flashes during start-up. What does this mean?
The display should only flash for the first few seconds after start-up. If it continues to flash the power supply is possibly faulty and must be repaired. Kindly download a customer request form, complete and send to Thermon SA (Pty) Ltd. for quote on repair.
How many solid state relays can I drive with a type D logic output from a temperature controller?
You may drive a maximum of 3 GTS gefran solid state relays - this may differ for other SSR brands.
Gefran controllers: LED 1 of the controller flashes on start-up. What does this mean?
This is a possible indication of an instrument that is in Soft-start mode - a function that serves to avoid thermal shock to a heating system. To check if controller is set for soft-start, follow these steps:
Gefran controller: Can the analog output on a 600-x-x-C-x-x be converted from 0-10V to 4-20mA?
Yes, although 0-10V is the standard output, the analogue signal can be changed to 4-20mA.
Gefran controller: Can the analog output on a 600-x-x-C-x-x be converted from 0-10V to 2-10V?
Yes, although 0-10V is the standard output, the analogue signal can be changed to 2-10V.
